FROM CORNWALL TO SCOTLAND

Edwin Bryant Associates, the Cornwall arm of Hills, has recently taken on a project to build a new crematorium in West Lothian for the Westerleigh Group.

The single storey stone and render crematorium is to be built on a new site in a cleared area of forest. The project includes improvement works and links to the highway. The 380sqm (4090sqft) building will include the chapel and cremator as well as offices, book of rememberance room and floral tribute canopy. The programme is tight as the crematorium needs to be in full working order in early 2010.

Edwin Bryant Associates secured the work via the architect, PDP Green Consulting of Camborne, who has a long working relationship with the Westerleigh Group.

SUCCESS OF HILLS' PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Three new primary schools in Exeter will complete on time to open for business in September this year.

Hills are acting as project manager for Exeter Diocese (Anglican) and the Plymouth Diocese (Roman Catholic) on a combined project to build four new voluntary aided schools in Exeter.  The fourth school is due to commence on site shortly and will be occupied in September 2007.

Hills' considerable knowledge of educational projects and DfES funding arrangements has enabled them to assist in obtaining grants of £15.1 million for the work.  They have guided the clients through the process of selecting the design teams; preparing option appraisals; drawing up final designs which incorporate a level of standardisation to reduce costs and some of the first environmental enhancements to be used on schools in Exeter; selecting a contractor; negotiating the final contract price and supervising work on site.

Because of this specialist knowledge Hills are now assisting The Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth and the Salisbury Diocese on a similar project in Poole.

18 WEEKS FOR MUSEUM FIT-OUT

Hills are acting as Project Managers, Cost Managers and Planning Supervisors on the £2 million exhibition fit-out of a unique museum in Northumberland.

Work has started on this project where Hills are working in conjunction with Haley Sharpe Design on the Cutter Building which is part of the Woodhorn Mining Museum.  The museum tells the fascinating story of Northumberland and its coal mining heritage as well as showing family and community history displays and holding Northumberland archives.

The original museum was closed last year and with joint funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund, Northumberland County Council and Wansbeck District Council, a £16 million building is being constructed alongside the protected colliery buildings.

Hills' experience of museum fit-out work with the same designers has also included the Royal Ontario Museum.
